Composite boilers
Composite boilers combine two heat sources within a single boiler unit: an oil-fired burner and an exhaust gas economizer. This design allows the vessel to generate steam both during sailing and while in port.
When the main engine is running, waste heat from exhaust gases can be used to produce steam. When additional steam is required, the oil-fired burner can be activated.
Operational benefits
Composite boilers offer several advantages:
- Improved energy efficiency
- Reduced fuel consumption
- Compact system design
- Flexible steam generation
However, the combined design also introduces additional maintenance requirements.
Typical service needs
Composite boiler systems may require:
- Cleaning of exhaust gas heating surfaces
- Burner inspection and tuning
- Inspection of pressure parts
- Control system adjustments
Maintaining both heat sources in optimal condition is essential to ensure reliable steam production
How we support composite boilers
Global Boiler Services provides specialised service for composite boiler systems, including:
- Economizer cleaning and repair
- Burner service and optimisation
- Pressure part inspection
- Control system troubleshooting
Our engineers ensure that both operating modes perform efficiently and safely.
