We know your boiler – experience and agility when uptime matters
Boiler repair is never a routine job. It is all about restoring critical systems under time pressure, managing operational risk and ensuring that vessels return to service without compromising safety or compliance. This is where Global Boiler Services positions itself: as a technically independent partner focused on uptime and reliability.
Working from Global Boilers base in Denmark, Brian Byskov supports customers as head of sales for the EU and the USA. Having joined Global Boiler Services in 2024 after many years in the maritime industry, including senior after-sales roles, he now works at the intersection of commercial dialogue and real-world operations.
Brand-independent boiler expertise
A defining feature of Global Boiler Services is its ability to work across all boiler types and designs. The company is not tied to a specific manufacturer, allowing it to approach repairs, upgrades, and lifetime extension projects with full independence.
“We can work on all types of boilers. We are not dependent on a brand, and that gives us freedom,” says Brian Byskov.
This independence is particularly valuable in critical situations. More than half of the company’s projects involve unplanned stops, often caused by operational errors or insufficient maintenance, where vessels are unable to sail.
“In those cases, detailed knowledge matters. While designs differ, the underlying technology is the same. Having seen so many installations enables us to act quickly and precisely.”

Planned maintenance versus breakdown response
The distinction between planned and unplanned work is central to Global Boiler Services’ value proposition. During planned stops, customers naturally focus on price and delivery time, while documentation, class approval and compliance are taken as given. In unplanned situations, priorities shift. “When a vessel is down, the cost of inactivity rises fast. Response time and flexibility become more important – and that we can deliver,” Byskov explains.
A maritime one stop shop
Global Boiler Services positions itself as a one-stop shop for marine steam systems worldwide. According to Brian Byskov, the value of this setup is often most clearly recognised during emergencies. “When customers realise, they can call one person who can coordinate everything – repairs, spare parts, automation and control systems – that simplicity makes a real difference.”
Global Boilers Services’ staff can handle entire steam systems on site, reducing the need for shipowners to manage multiple suppliers during time-critical situations.
Automation and operational resilience
Automation is an increasingly important part of Brian Byskovs dialogues with customers. They are investing in PLC-based control systems from Global Boiler Services primarily to improve flexibility and resilience.
“Our PLC solutions store the programme on an SD card. If a PLC fails, a replacement can be installed in the next port and the system restarted within an hour. This is a welcomed added layer of security in the industry that can prevent downtime,” says Brian Byskov. In other systems the customer must wait for a PLC Specialist to arrive and manually open the PLC to install the program which leads to downtime.
Preventive service and compliance
Preventive maintenance remains a cornerstone of Global Boiler Services’ approach. Annual inspections and structured service agreements allow for informed planning and, if necessary, timely decision making – rather than reactive and more costly measure later in operation.
Compliance with class requirements is handled in close dialogue with classification organisations. Where non-destructive testing is required, Global Boiler Services deliberately uses independent third parties.
“We do not inspect our own work. Third parties strengthen trust with both customers and class,” Byskov notes.

Market outlook and future fuels
Across Brian Byskovs markets, customer priorities vary, but the economic reality is the same: “A vessel not sailing is lost money. That applies everywhere.” Looking ahead, Brian Byskov and Global Boiler Services are preparing for new fuels and altered operating patterns of vessels:
“Biofuel blends are already in use and generally manageable, although fuel quality varies. LNG introduces different combustion characteristics, and while much can be calculated, operational experience is key. We are building that knowledge now for future inspections and repairs.”
Continuity beyond the project
For Brian Byskov, project delivery does not end when the repair is completed. “If a customer calls on a Saturday night, there is support available. We operate 24/7.365”
He also points to growing synergies within the wider G&O Group, where shared facilities, specialised competencies and common systems enable customer needs to be addressed across disciplines. “In practice, customer dialogue often reveals challenges that can be solved elsewhere in the organisation. That is where the G&O-group structure adds value, and we are working hard to expand this in the future,” Brian Byskov says.
